Addressing the IEB schools on protest theatre
Drama is a 'big thing' for Independent Education Board (IEB) schools and they do drama really well! My good friend, Ismael Mohamed, was invited to speak about protest theatre as part of this year's revision day on 10 August for IEB schools. When he took ill, he asked me to stand in for him, which I was more than happy to do as IEB schools have studied at least two of my texts - Green Man Flashing and Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Metaphors. My brief was to speak about protest theatre from my own personal experience both before 1994 and afterwards. I was able to reflect on 50 years since 1976 when I was at school and how this experience was very formative in my political development and in how this shaped my eventual career path in theatre.
