Staged reading of Closing Argument

Awethu Hleli reads the script of a play set in Rwanda

One of my offerings for Subscribers is a monthly reading of a new or existing text.  Closing Argument was commissioned by an actress friend in Rwanda and it deals with how Burundian refugees are treated in Rwanda.  The themes of GBV and Afrophobia resonate with the South African experience and it was an appropriate script for that time.  I invited Awethu Hleli - whose contract with the Baxter Theatre Company had just ended - to read the script.  She did a fantastic job and the audience was moved by her reading and by the story it told.
